Almost Famous Musical Teases 2022 Broadway Premiere

Will the Tom Kitt musical based on the film be heading to the Main Stem later this year?

The stage musical adaptation of almost known teases a 2022 Broadway premiere, writing “It’s all happening…Broadway 2022” in her profile official twitter handle.

Based on the 2000 film of the same name, the musical features a score by Tony and Pulitzer winner Tom Kitt, and book and lyrics by Cameron Crowe, who won an Oscar for writing the original film based on about his own teenage experience. The coming-of-age story follows a 15-year-old music fan named William who lands a Rolling Stone assignment after touring up-and-coming band Stillwater.

Although no details about the eventual Broadway arc were shared, the musical had its world premiere at the Old Globe in San Diego in 2019. Read reviews for the California run here.

The 2019 production starred Colin Donnell (Purple, Chicago Mediterranean) as Russell Hammond, Solea Pfeiffer (hamilton) as Penny Lane, and newcomer Casey Likes as William Miller.

Yee as Ben Fong-Torres and Van Hughes (spring awakening) as David Felton, with Danny Lindgren and Alisa Melendez serving as swings.

Jerry Herrin directed the production, leading a creative team that included choreographer Lorin Latarro, set designer Derek McLane, costume designer David Zinn, lighting designer Natasha Katz, and sound designer Peter Hylenski. Bryan Perri was the musical director for the production.
