Kelsea Ballerini has just won her very first CMA award. “Half of My Hometown”, his duet with Kenny Chesney, was named Music Event of the Year 2021.
The announcement was made Wednesday morning (November 10), ahead of the evening’s CMAs on ABC (8 p.m. ET). Top 20 singles from her Kelsea also won Music Video of the Year, also announced early. Lifetime Ballerini has seven other nominations, including five in the Female Singer of the Year category.
Ballerini is due to present at the 2021 CMA Awards.
Speaking to Taste of Country on Tuesday (November 9), she didn’t sound too optimistic about her chances. It was not clear at the time whether the price would be announced on Tuesday or Wednesday, but it historically comes before the show.
âI didn’t hear,â she said. “But generally, no news is bad news.”
Previously, she told ToC how the collaboration started with a 2 a.m. text to Chesney:
In addition to the song Ballerini and Chesney, the Music Event of the Year category at the 2021 CMA Awards included âBuy Dirtâ by Jordan Davis and Luke Bryan, âChasing After Youâ by Ryan Hurd and Maren Morris, âDrunk (and I Don’t Wanna Go Home) âandâ Famous Friends âby Chris Young and Kane Brown.
Moments after it was announced that “Half My Hometown” won the CMA musical event, the CMA (by GMA) shared that the song also won Music Video of the Year.
The Country Music Association is hosting the 2021 CMA Awards at the Bridgestone Arena in downtown Nashville. The show, first hosted by Luke Bryan, returns to the venue – his home since 2006 – after a year at Music City Center due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 2021 CMA Awards will begin at 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday evening (November 10) and will air live on ABC.
