The City of Niagara has announced that its popular Music Mania Monday concert series will begin its eighth season on Monday, June 27 at Veterans Memorial Community Park on Lockport Road. The music begins at 6:30 that night with Billy Joel tribute band, the Turnstyles, from South Florida. This performance will feature Joel’s music from 1971 to the present, and will include hits such as “The Piano Man” and “Uptown Girl.” The opening band that night will be Seventh Sign.
On Monday, July 2, the city presents a special edition of “Music Mania Monday” as a celebration of Independence Day. An all-day musical lineup will open at 2 p.m. Four bands will perform throughout the day, which concludes at 10 p.m. with a massive Independence Day fireworks celebration. The musical program includes:
√ 2pm-3:30pm – The classic rock sounds of Storm
√ 4-5:30 p.m. – The Led Zeppelin tribute band Out on the Tiles
√ 6-7:30 p.m. – Styx Grand Illusion Tribute Band
√ 8pm-10pm – ELO Strange Tribute Tribute Band
“Music Mania Mondays” continues July 11 with Elton John’s tribute to Elton Rohn beginning at 6:30 p.m. Back by popular demand, this show is a must-see, with Elton John’s flamboyant costumes backed by a string quartet. There will be no opening show that night.
July 18 will feature Queen Nation, a tribute to the Queen straight from Southern California. At the start of this evening, the group Rock Angel, featuring Maureen Gambino from Lewiston.
One of the biggest draws of “Music Mania” returns to the stage on July 25 with the BBC Band playing all those Beatles favourites. The opening band is Flipside.
On August 1, Western New York favorite Strictly Hip will make their first visit to the “Music Mania Monday” stage. The first group will be Meg and the Vandals.
The good times at Veterans Park continue on August 8 with Chicago Authority, a must-see Chicago tribute. Opener that night will be The USA Band.
On August 18, expect a fantastic doubleheader featuring The Yacht Fathers followed by Nerds Gone Wild.
“Music Mania Mondays” concludes August 22 with Escape, one of the first Journey tribute bands from Los Angeles. The opening will be Learn to Fly, a tribute to Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.
The series is presented by the City of Niagara, with primary sponsorship from Niagara’s Choice Federal Credit Union, Joe Cecconi’s Chrysler Complex, WNY Heroes, Republic Services, Covanta Environmental Services, Tim Hortons, Rich Entertainment Group and Scott Lawn Yard Inc. Mania Mondays is open to the public, with shows starting at 6:30 p.m. Seating is first come first served and a number of food vendors are on site each week.
The city has declared the Veterans Memorial Community Park a smoke-free venue. Coolers are allowed, but subject to being searched. No outside alcohol is allowed. Only assistance dogs are allowed in the park.
